- To calculate magnetic moment of transition metal. First we need a formula....
- To calculating magnetic moment of transition metal formula is √n(n+2)
- For example- Cr3+ we know Chromium metal is a d block element and it's have 5 electron in d orbital and one electron in s orbital.. It's electronic configuration is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d5 4s1
But in oxidation state +3 is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3p6 3d3
When we put formula, √n(n+2)
n=no of Valence electron
In chromium three valence electron is present
n=3
=√3(3+2)=√15
