Question related to lattice energy

 

  1. LiF, LiCl,  LiBr,  LiI
  2. LiF,  MgF2,  MgO
 Ans:-  1. We know that , from born lande equation lattice energy is inversely proportinal to size

:.  In first question Li is common but second atom changed. 

We know that, in group moving up to down the size of halogens increase 

:. Increasing order of size is =

                       I>Br>Cl>F

Order of increasing lattice energy is=

                 LiI>LiBr>LiCl>LiF

2.  From born lande equation charge is directly proportional to the lattice energy

                         U=Z+*Z-

Therefore, in second question... 

                     MgO = +2*-2= 4

                 MgF2= +2*(-1*2)= 4

                   LiF  = +1*-1= 1

Note:-   in MgO and MgF2 both metal are same but next atom is different. We know that the size of F is small than O so the lattice energy of MgO is greater than MgF


The increasing order of lattice energy is -

       MgO>MgF2>LiF
